About the event: 7th Asian Mining Congress & Exhibition

Preamble

The Asian Mining Congress (AMC) and International Mining Exhibition (IME), a biennial event organized by The Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), provides a forum for the miners, machinery manufacturers, planners, regulators, academicians, scientists and policy makers to discuss various issues affecting the mineral industry in the Asian region in particular, and rest of the world at large. The event provides an unrivalled opportunity for the manufacturers of mining machinery in the world to showcase their products and do business. The first AMC and Exhibition were held in January 2006 to commemorate the centenary of MGMI. The 2nd AMC was held in January 2008, the 3rd in January 2010, the 4th in January 2012, the 5th in February 2014 and the 6th in February 2016. These events were highly successful with participation of about 20 countries spread over different parts of the world along with large participation of various mining companies in India. The 7th Asian Mining Congress and International Mining Exhibition in this sequel will be held during November 8th - 11th, 2017 at Kolkata, India.

Background

Asia, the world’s largest continent, is also the world’s highest producer of raw material to the tune of 10 billion tonnes per year, accounting for 56% of global mineral production. With huge area and diversity of geological set-up in Asia, it is likely that every kind of deposit is present in this continent. The outlook for mine development is very promising here and it plays a major role in the global economy.

The congress will provide a forum for promotion and support of techno-scientific cooperation towards national and international progress in the areas of mineral production, in addition to the development of new opportunities of sustainable business that will benefit both Asian and world communities.

India: The Host Country

IndiaIndia is a wonderful country of great diversity, from the exotic scenic beauty of the great Himalayas with eternal snow capped mountains in the north to the luxuriant coconut groves of the Malabar Coast in the South; from the desolate loneliness of the deserts and dotted with beautiful palaces in Rajasthan in the west to the rich cultivated thickly populated Gangetic plains in the east. It has more than 7600 km long beautiful coastline, which attracts tourists round the year. India has a civilization which is more than 5000 years old. The glories of the past stand side-by-side with wonders of modern science and engineering. India has a great and stirring past. There is indication that her future will be even greater.

Kolkata: The Host City

IndiaKolkata is a vibrant modern metropolis of 10 million plus population and is the Gateway to Eastern and Northeastern States of India. The city is well connected by international and domestic airlines and also by rail network with rest of the country. Kolkata is appropriately regarded as the cultural capital of India for its immense contribution in these fields. Kolkata has a very pleasant climate in the month of November when the maximum day temperature is around 25-290C and nights cool down to 16-180C.

Kolkata is also aptly called the Mining capital of India too because of its proximity to major coalfields and metal mining belts. Headquarters of Geological Survey of India (GSI), Coal India Limited (CIL), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) etc. are also located in Kolkata. Academic and Research Institutes on Mining like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM), Dhanbad, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Khargpur, Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Dhanbad, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Dhanbad etc. are all located within a radius of 250 km distance from Kolkata.
